Social media is a realistic fantasy

A lot of people have gotten so addicted to social media and it has become their source of joy and hold. Two days ago Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger was down and a lot of people felt empty. I remember visiting Instagram just after it was restored and scrolling through peoples profile and seeing how bad they felt away from social media.

I really want to say what you must have heard before, there is life away from social media. There is a world of your own, a realistic world that has been so void for a long time. Training yourself to be able to exist and cohabit without the media is a very big discipline we as humans needs to cultivate and learn.

If you are a business owner and your only source of traffic is Instagram, I need not to remind you that Instagram is a media web page and app owned by a company and you need not to totally depend on social media for sales. Opening a website for your business is the right thing to do.

With all this being said, are you still wondering and feeling down about the recent announcement made by the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, stating that Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger will be shutdown again for 168hrs which is 7 days. In his statement he also apologized and also added that the upgrade will start on Wednesday October 6th 2021-1300hrs.

Are you wondering what your days will feel like without visiting these social networks? well here is what you have to do especially students who are yet to discover themselves in the craft world.

1. Get creative and learn something new.

No knowledge is wasted capitalize from this break to learn something new that you can grow or develop.

2. Bond with your family and partner.

It time to embrace family and see how important and fun they can be.

3. Take a break and Detox your mind.

Your mental health is very important, it is very crucial to give your mental health a rest. There are blogs that constantly promotes provoking contents and gradually these affect our mental health, making us paranoid and defensive of people around us in reality.

4. Dependence on social media for happiness.

This is a dream that can never be reality, happiness should first start within you before any other thing. Media should never be your source of happiness because it is a mixture of bad and good.

5. It time to fix your sleep time.

As light as it might sound, people are so addicted to social media that it makes them stay awake all night. Media has contributed to poor performance at work place, unhealthy competitions amongst other things.

INSOMNIA: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS, DIAGNOSIS, PREVENTION, AND THERAPY.

6. It is time to take control.

According to Frances Haugen, there is a conflict of interest between what is good for the public and what is good for Facebook. She reveled that the group focus more on its own interest which is to make more money, done by channeling people to angry contents that makes them spend more time on the media commenting, hereby increasing their revenue.

There is psychology in every business which is to channel traffic and generate profit and most businesses do not put your mental health in check. Social media can be good or bad which depends on how it is used. Take advantage of the break in transmission and be in charge any.

7. Take care of yourself.

THIS IS WHAT YOUR SELF CARE SHOULD LOOK LIKE AS AN ENTREPRENEUR.

8. Save your eyesight.

The effect of light on the human eyes is under stated. Because computer screens and digital devices emit a large amount of blue light, this unfocused visual "noise" decreases contrast and may contribute to digital eye strain. Additionally, when people use digital devices, they blink less, which contributes to dry eye and eye strain.

  1. I couldn't agree more with all your points! I stay off social media on weekend and limit time during the week. We need to get off our screens and be present to what is in front of us.

  3. Great tips. Social media has taken over most of people's lives.
Hours without it have caused anxiety to some.
We need to lay low on social media and spend more time
    with more important things.

  4. I agree, social media must not control our life. For businesses however, I know social media is important, but, yes, even as business owners, we must take a break.

When that happened, I thought our internet service was having another maintenance thing.

  5. You make great points here, Melody! I generally stay off of social media during weekday work hours, because I'm working haha, so the outage didn't bother me too much. But it's important to remember to take breaks, and be present!

I hope you have a great weekend!

  6. I was really shocked seeing how much people missed Instagram last week. I don't really like spending time there and don't use it all that often but I do think it's really important to spend at least one block of time a week away from your phone and do things that keep you connected to the real world x
