Top 5 Reasons Why Sleep Is Vital to Your Health

While a nutritious diet and regular exercise are critical for overall health, a good night's sleep is just as critical! Unfortunately, many people are getting less sleep than ever before as a result of hectic work and school schedules. Before you stay up late watching television, consider the following top 5 reasons why sleep is vital to your health:

Importance of sleep

1. Increased Focus and Productivity

Another reason why sleep is critical for your health is that it aids in brain health improvement! A restful night's sleep can improve concentration, problem-solving abilities, and productivity, whereas insufficient sleep has been shown to impair brain function. A lack of sleep can have the same detrimental effect on certain aspects of your brain function as alcohol intoxication.

2. Maintaining a healthy weight

Weight loss through exercise and a balanced diet

A restful night's sleep is critical for weight maintenance, as sleep deprivation has been shown to disrupt daily fluctuations in appetite hormones. As a result, when you're sleep-deprived, you're more likely to experience an increased appetite and consume more calories. Sleep deprivation has been strongly associated with weight gain and is one of the strongest risk factors for obesity. Whether you're trying to lose weight or simply maintain your current weight, getting a good night's sleep is critical!

3. Strengthens the Immune System

By sleeping at least eight hours each night, you can boost your immune system and aid in the fight against the common cold. Even a slight reduction in sleep has been found to have a negative impact on immune function. Indeed, those who sleep less than 7 hours per night are nearly three times as likely to develop a cold as those who sleep 8 hours or more!

4. Inadequate Sleep Contributes to Increased Inflammation

A bad night's sleep can have a significant impact on your body's inflammation, as sleep deprivation activates undesirable markers of inflammation and cell damage. When you do not get enough sleep on a consistent basis, you can develop chronic inflammation of the digestive tract. This can result in inflammatory bowel diseases and increase your risk of recurrence of the disease.

5. Decreased Risk of Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke

It is well established that the quality and duration of sleep have a significant impact on a variety of health risk factors, including heart disease and stroke. Individuals who do not get enough sleep are significantly more likely to develop heart problems than those who get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep per night. As a result, do your heart a favor and get as much sleep as possible!

We hope that learning why sleep is critical for your health has been beneficial, and we look forward to sharing more healthcare tips with you!

“Become A Dutiful Watchman”

Key Verse “So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me” (Ezekiel 33:7). Text —Ezekiel 33:4-9 Message A watchman is a security guard. He helps to ensure the safety of a building or an environment. The story of Rick Rescorla is a good example of a dutiful watchman. He was the head of security for Morgan Stanley in the World Trade Center’s South Tower. He was said to have regularly conducted escape drills with employees which they heeded, thereby saving their lives during the 9/11 attacks in New York. He equally led people down the stairs to safety. It is believed that his being dutiful saved the lives of more than 2,500 employees. He was not only proactive by drilling the employees before the terrible event, he also risked his life to guide many people out to safety. By our text of today, beloved, you are set a watchman. Wherever you are is your duty post until you receive a call to duty elsewhere. Barnabas and Saul were busy with the brethren in the church in Antioch before the Holy Ghost called them to missionary work (Acts 13:1-3). Today is World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Pray as led. Quote Beloved, you are a watchman Challenge Watchman, warn youths and all of the danger of hell. Prayer for today Holy Father, help me to warn the world with your word.
