Wishing you a merry Christmas and happy new year

Today is Christmas Day, and I am particularly thankful. We always looked forward to Christmas as kids because my parents would buy new clothes and shoes for my siblings, and my mother's cooking was always excellent. Each time I talk about my mom's cooking, it's not just because she's my mom; she's a skilled cook. During family occasions, everyone wants her to lead or supervise the cooking. My mom is blessed with the gift of cooking.

She would prepare delicious meals, and we would enjoy them as a family. We'd walk around the neighborhood to showcase our Christmas clothes and sometimes receive money gifts. Just like people celebrate Halloween, that's how we celebrate Christmas—going around and collecting gifts. It's funny to think about it now, but I love those memories. People would visit each other's houses and eat together. My mom usually prepares takeaway packs for anyone who visits us. I loved Christmas back then, but as I grew up and moved abroad, it wasn't the same. There were days I would just sleep all day during Christmas, like today, when I was at home on the couch feeling weak from the flu and cough.

There is no music on the streets, everything around my street is so boring, and nothing screams Christmas. I guess if I want to experience anything, I might go to the city center, but I am happy to be able to experience another Christmas and be alive; it's a privilege. I also thank God for my friend, whom I see as a sister; she made this year memorable. An intentional sister, and I ask God to bless her every day. One of the prayers I always make for her is that she is a very well-to-do man because she is such a caring human. We took this photo when we both traveled to Edinburgh together weeks ago and planned to post it today.

I turned on the music after I took my shower, made the traditional Nigerian coconut rice, and fried some plantains. I guess I already figured out my day for another Christmas at home alone. Adult life is crazy. Lol, all my friends are in different countries due to the war.

So, what about you? What are you doing for Christmas? Are you having a loud Christmas or a silent Christmas, just like me? Or what did you do for Christmas? Let me know in the comment section below. Have a beautiful Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season.

  8. We took a beautiful hike to see a waterfall and ate a late lunch/early dinner at a diner off the interstate. We had already had a delightful evening with the family in the 23rd but they are in the medical field and was scheduled to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. A very nice day but I look forward getting back to normal and boring. Merry Christmas Melody.

  9. I orginally came from Poland. The holidays there last 4 days, starting with Christmas Eve, festive suppers, singing carols, visiting the churches, and spending time with family and friends. When I moved to the USA, these traditions changed a bit because we only have 1 day off from work here on Christmas Day. I wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas to you. Long ago I had Christmases without family around. It was weird, but I managed. Glad you could enjoy some friends and have made the season work with memories. Lovely pics!

  16. Hello, Melody. My Christmas was also beautiful and colorful. I spent it in Wrocław. There was a lot of joy with my husband, daughter and her friends. There was also delicious food, walks, conversations, joy. I wish you and your loved ones a lot of health and happiness in the New Year. I also hope that we will meet on our blogs. Kisses!

  17. What a beautiful post, Melody. I loved learning about your mum and isn't it wonderful to have a friend like yours? I'm lucky that way, too, and it is a treasure. Your tree and photos are lovely. We had a long Christmas -- starting early with our grands and wrapping up quietly at home together. But boy, did I miss my mom's cooking. I'm pretty bad but totally destroyed dinner! Well, can't have everything and at least Rick was understanding! Thanks for stopping by Marmelade Gypsy and leaving a lovely comment. I'm back on blog after a couple of days off so my wishes to you are now for a lovely holiday season and new year.

  18. A lovely post Melody. Christmas is different as we grow up, but having family or friends around does make the Holiday. I am glad you got to spend it with your lovely friend, and it was interesting to read about how you used to go around the neighborhood. Sound like you mom was an excellent cook! I am cooking more myself, inspired more these days. Wishing you a Blessed Holiday Season and New Year. You and your friend look beautiful!

  19. Hello, Melody, thanks for stopping by my blog. Your blog is so beautiful and so are you. I love that picture by the Christmas tree. Christmas in my childhood home in Sweden was also very special. I had another blog since 2009 and last year something went wrong with the comments. They all disappeared. So I'm grateful when someone new finds my new blog, I was worried for a while, but I think it will be fine. I just need to play with it and be patient. Happy New Year!
