How to make your living room appear more expensive

When you don't have a luxury budget, it can be difficult to create a living room that seems like it was taken from the pages of an interior design magazine or a posh boutique hotel.
Fortunately, there are several inventive methods to make your living room appear more expensive without spending a fortune.

These simple ideas will not only add instant glam to your home but will also make it feel more snug, orderly, and visually appealing. The best part is that you won't have to spend a fortune on an entire renovation. So, if you want to arrange your living room on a budget, here are 7 ideas to make it look more expensive.

1. Include luxurious throw pillows and soft furniture.

If you have a sofa, chair, and throw cushions in the same fabric and texture, it can make your home look boring and lackluster. Replace boring throw pillows with soft, exquisite pillows or even faux sheepskin throws. To add depth and design, mix and match textures and sizes, and soft, velveteen materials can help create a living space that is snug and inviting.

Plush ottoman storage benches, such as this Design studios Roanoke gride storage bench (169.39, Glit), or Debenhams folding Ottoman Storage Box Footstool Tub Space Saving Velvet Seat (£22.99) might also work well. Even if you like a neutral color scheme, you can add vivid tones for a luxurious touch. Teal, cerise, pale mustard, and Smokey charcoal gray are all elegant colors that can be used in any décor.

2. A big statement rug.

Similarly, using warm, large carpets gives the idea of a larger area while also making a room feel homey. Before you buy, make sure the rug is at least 12 inches away from every wall or transition gap if you have an open floor plan. Rugs can also be used to keep furniture from sliding around and absorb sound in wide, open areas. Furthermore, if you have exposed hardwood floors, consider having them re-waxed or re-stained to keep them in good shape. If you prefer to invest in rugs, you'll also need to know how to clean a rug and restore its luster.

3. Purchase a large mirror.

Oversized mirrors not only make a tiny room appear larger and brighter, but they also make a space feel more expensive. Mirrors are an excellent method to reflect natural light throughout a space, making it appear larger and more open. Lean a huge mirror on a wall opposite a window to bounce light off it for the best results. To maximize light in compact spaces, choose mirrors that extend from floor to ceiling. Furthermore, if you want to brighten up a dark area, a feature mirrored wall will do the work. These are simply walls made of glass or silver-tinted mirrors. More importantly, it will provide a contemporary makeover to a blank wall and make a space feel opulent.

4. Construct a feature wall.

You may always paint or build a feature wall if you have a boring, blank wall or simply want to make a statement. While most individuals choose a bright paint color, there are numerous alternative designs to choose from. Textured, graphic, and bold wallpaper can completely change and create a statement on a bare wall. Choose from a range of materials, such as imitation brick for an industrial look, hand-painted, or luxurious suede for a touch of glam. If you prefer a more traditional design, wall paneling is becoming increasingly popular, providing a traditional, sumptuous vibe. These are often constructed of MDF wood and come in a variety of patterns and thicknesses that look wonderful in living or dining areas.

5. Use metallic accents.

Adding metallic finishes to your living room is another quick and easy way to make it look more expensive. Accents in brass, copper, brushed stainless steel, and gold can all add grandeur to the area. This can be accomplished by replacing plug fittings, cabinet handles, door knobs, and even light/ceiling pendants and wall sconces.

For a more glamorous look, choose glossy finishes that reflect light and make your area appear larger. Furthermore, you can find gorgeous and one-of-a-kind hardware items in flea markets or antique shops to give your home an attractive, opulent appearance.

6. Use Large houseplants.

Using large houseplants or trees is another method to make your living space appear more luxurious. Plants, in general, are a terrific way to bring the outside in—especially if you live in an apartment—and may add vitality and color to your space. Go big with luscious palms, birds of paradise, maize plants, or olive trees if you truly want to make a statement.

In addition, to improve the decorative aspect, position them in stunning concrete or stone-style pots, rattan baskets, or tall planters. If you don't have a green thumb or the ideal conditions to cultivate your favorite plants, you can buy some magnificent artificial plants that seem exactly like the genuine thing. Furthermore, you may set up fake plants wherever you are in the home all year without worrying about the weather, saving money on replacing wilted plants. If you choose artificial plants, you should be aware of these 7 strategies to make your fake plants look more lifelike.

7. Use attractive storage to declutter.

When it comes to making a room look more opulent, we frequently overlook the need to incorporate efficient and practical storage solutions. Conceal common clutter with attractive furniture such as ottoman benches, blanket boxes, or woven baskets to avoid congested interiors. Not only are these ingenious methods to hide clutter, but they may also bring a bit of glitter to your living area.

In addition, if your front entrance is cluttered with shoes, here are 7 space-saving methods to organize shoes in your foyer. Also, hide those unsightly items! There are inventive solutions to hide unsightly items in your home, such as charger wires or TV cords on your floor, smart home devices, or unsightly tissue boxes. Reduce cable cutters, for example, by investing in cable management solutions such as this Web Cable Management Box ($31, saks fifth avenue).

These also prevent cords from dragging on the floor and keep things nice and tidy. For a more natural look, hide your unsightly tissue boxes around the house behind a fashionable tissue box cover, such as this Nile Tissue Box Cover (Less than $45, Neiman marcus).

These ways will not only help you conceal unattractive items, but they will also make your room more orderly and aesthetically pleasing, especially if you want to attain that "instagrammable" look.

I love really nice pillows, I rarely use the ones the couch comes with. Plants are great too esp if they're not real (I am NOT an indoor green thumb). Great tips!
