Orange Dress Styling Tips: How to Make a Bold Colour Look Elegant

Stylewe recently reached out and sent me a lovely package containing some products to try and share with my readers. I am happy to disclose that these items are gifted, but you already know that won't stop me from giving you my 100% honest opinion on the quality and wearability!

Today, the spotlight is on the absolute star of the package: this stunning orange off-the-shoulder cotton midi dress. You can find all the specific product details directly on the Stylewe site here.

Let’s start with the basics: the fabric. I was really pleased to find that the material isn't bad at all; in fact, the textured cotton feels high-quality, breathable, and structured. This was especially important because I wore this dress to church last Sunday and then later for a lovely boat ride (I will save the boat ride details for another post; for now let's focus on the dress!). It was comfortable and held its shape perfectly all day.

As for the fit and style, just look at it! I always used to think that the color orange looked so bad on me, but I have to completely disagree with that thought now. The dress features these beautiful, structured puff sleeves and a sophisticated wide-band waistline that creates an elegant hourglass silhouette. It is the perfect balance of modest and striking, which is why it was my first choice for church last Sunday. You can also wear this dress to a wedding, graduation, court hearing, meetings—I mean, literally any event you want to.

This brings me to the fashion problem I want to solve today: How on earth do you style a bold, monochromatic orange dress without looking crazy or bland?

It can feel like a really high-risk color. Let’s take a look at the alternative styling, where the model is pairing the dress with an all-orange bag and matching orange shoes. While some people can absolutely pull off that stark monochromatic look, I personally would never recommend that styling for myself. For me, it risks making the look too 'matchy-matchy' or, ironically, very bland.

The LIme Green Dress That Made Me Say "Yes" to Sleeveless

If you know me, you know sleeveless dresses are usually a hard no. I've always preferred covering my arms, but when I saw this high-waisted crew neck maxi dress from Stylewe, I had to give it a shot—and I am officially in my sleeveless era!

Between the dramatic flared skirt, utility pockets, and the cinched waist, it made me feel like an absolute 10. Plus, I'm sharing my favorite high-contrast "It Girl" color pairing (lime green + dark maroon) and 3 simple ways to style this dress for different seasons.

The Detailing: It has two front utility pockets with gorgeous button details, a high-waisted belt that cinches your waist, and a gathered midline that cascades into a stunning, dramatic flare.

The Fit: I ordered a size Small, and it is entirely true to size. It fits like a glove, not too tight but perfectly tailored to my body. The hem is finished beautifully, and the fabric feels good and cozy without a hint of itchiness.

The Color & Ironing Hack: The color is gorgeous, although I did notice a tiny quirk. When I ironed it on a very high heat setting, the color temporarily shifted slightly! Luckily, once it cooled down, it went right back to its original beautiful shade. Pro tip: skip the high-heat iron on this material and use a steamer instead!

Green Elegant Plain Crew Neck Maxi Dress With Belt

I've collaborated with Stylewe several times now, and they consistently deliver great quality on the budget-friendly side. If you need a gorgeous look for wedding season, a college graduation, or just want to look classy at a formal event, this dress gets a very solid yes from me.

How I Styled My Look (The "It Girl" Twist)

To give this look that effortless, Pinterest-worthy "It Girl" aesthetic, I wanted to play with high-contrast details rather than playing it safe.

I paired the maxi with a sleek  bag and shoes from Stradivarius.

Instead of classic pearls (which are beautiful but felt a bit too predictable), I decided to do something unexpected. I wore these adorable, super playful cherry earrings I found at Stradivarius.

The Color Palette: Lime green and dark maroon are the ultimate high-fashion color pairing. It looks incredibly rich and expensive.

What to Wear Running Errands | Casual Saturday Outfit Inspiration

Melody Jacob wearing Zara jeans, next jumper, and Juicy Couture Jasmine bag

Saturday errands call for one thing above everything else: comfort that still feels put together.

I reached for my favourite Next orange jumper, my Zara jeans that have definitely earned their place as a wardrobe staple, and my Maya suede clogs by Viva Shoes, which were featured on my blog previously. These jeans have been on repeat more times than I can count, and that's exactly why I love them. The relaxed fit gives me plenty of room to move around, whether I'm picking up a few things, grabbing a drink, or simply enjoying a slow Saturday. Comfort will always win for me.

I finished the look with my white Juicy Couture Jasmine bag, which was part of the beautiful birthday gift my partner surprised me with back in June 2026. Every time I carry it, it makes me smile a little.

Relaxed denim, cosy knitwear, suede clogs, and statement accessories are still having a moment, and I completely understand why. Effortless dressing never goes out of style. It's the kind of outfit that feels just as at home browsing Target, stopping by Trader Joe's, or spending an afternoon at a local farmers' market as it does running my usual weekend errands.

Some outfits are all about making a statement. Others are simply about feeling good in what you're wearing. This one does both for me, and that's why I'll happily keep reaching for these jeans again and again.

What are your go-to weekend staples?

Stradivarius Review: Round-Clasp Shoulder Bag & Heeled Leather Effect Sandals

Melody Jacob wearing Stradivarius heeled leather-effect sandals and round-clasp shoulder bag

I have some exciting news for my Glasgow fashion girlies or anyone who shops from Stradivarius, and trust me, you are going to want to run to the malls after reading this.

For the longest time, I thought Stradivarius wasn't a thing in the UK. Don't ask me why I didn't check online; I don't know. Having lived in Ukraine, it was one of my absolute go-to spots. I’ve always appreciated their production quality; unlike a lot of fast-fashion brands, their bags, shoes, and hardware actually last. Yet, every mall I visited in Glasgow seemed to be missing it.

Well, the fashion gods finally listened. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending an exclusive beauty event at Space NK in Silverburn to meet the founder herself, Sunday Riley! After some morning skincare chats, my partner dropped me off to do a little exploring while he shopped around the mall. As I was walking through Silverburn, my jaw dropped. I spotted Glasgow’s Stradivarius store.

Of course, I had to walk in.

Unlock Your Power by Poppy Delbridge: How to Stop Saying Yes

Have you ever stopped to wonder if the thing holding you back isn't actually your ability... but a pattern you've been repeating for years? Sometimes we get to see those patterns, and sometimes we don't even notice them. I believe that I might have some things that are holding me back from reaching my full potential at the moment, but as I grow, I believe in breaking through barriers. This is where my deep dive into a game-changing book comes in.

If you read my previous article, "The Silent Helper," you might remember how so many of you poured your hearts out in the comments because you related to it. For a long time, I told myself, "I'm just being helpful. I'm not a people pleaser." But when I stopped being the Silent Helper, I had to face a sad, uncomfortable truth: I was absolutely people-pleasing. Part of growing up is having those brutally honest conversations with yourself and then sharing what you’ve learned to help someone else.

I also used to be a massive overthinker. Before sending a simple "Hi, how are you?" message, I would obsess: Is it too informal? Is it respectful? What if they don’t reply—did I offend them? It’s a mental cage. You aren't actually living; you're just surviving in a state of self-inflicted torture.

Secrets of Pulhowan Burn Waterfall That Stole My Heart

Why have I been holding onto these photos for over two months now? Honestly, I don't even know. It has been a little more than two months since we took this short road trip into the wild, quiet heart of Dumfries and Galloway, and I’ve just been sitting on them. Maybe a part of me felt like I needed the absolute perfect moment to sit down and write this post the exact way I wanted to—to give it the time and the soul it deserves. I always check the exact date of our visits because places in Scotland change so beautifully from season to season, allowing you to plan your own perfect escape depending on whether you want a lush summer canopy or a crisp winter walk. On that day, winter was just dragging its final, chilly tail into spring.

We had spent the afternoon exploring the Wood of Cree Nature Reserve, near Newton Stewart. It is the largest ancient oak woodland in southern Scotland, a majestic sanctuary owned and beautifully managed by the RSPB. They are doing such an incredible job preserving it. Before we stumbled upon the main event, we were just winding down our day, soaking in the peace of a small water area nearby. It was a complete playground for us. We were standing by the river’s edge, laughing like kids, playing a game to see who could throw the last stone into the water. We were just enjoying the river flowing, watching the ripples catch the late winter light, and I’m guessing that very water is connected to what we found next.

Even when we finally headed back to the car, our little game wasn't over. I had quietly slipped a few small stones inside my clothes, completely determined to get the final throw. As my partner started driving away, he threw one last stone out of his window, thinking he’d won the game. I threw mine excitedly, celebrating my victory, but he had secretly packed an extra one too! The moment he tossed his real final stone, I sneakily cracked my door open, scooped up a few more pebbles from the gravel, and the game kept going down the road until he threw his absolute last one. I let him drive for just a little bit, feeling smug, and then I flipped my final stone into the fresh air. I won. It’s small, silly moments like that, just clicking and laughing together in the fresh air, that make us appreciate sharing a deep love for nature. Someone asked me again recently why I love going out into the wild so much. I have a long, beautiful answer for that, and I promise I’ll write a whole separate post to express it fully so you can understand my perspective. But for now, all I can say is that nature is incredibly healing, an absolute gift, and a place we should always respect.

How Not To Be Stupid by Igor Sibaldi

The Day I Realized I Was Coded to Be Stupid (According to Igor Sibaldi)

Let’s play a quick, uncomfortable game. Think of the last time you saw a wildly controversial post online. Did you instantly feel a surge of opinion? Did you instinctively know exactly which side you were on, using words you’ve read a thousand times before?

We like to think those thoughts are ours. We like to believe our rage, our validation, and our tastes are entirely self-authored. But what if they aren’t? What if your mind is just frozen in place, renting out space to a collective script?

I recently watched an interview with the philosopher and theologian Igor Sibaldi, which completely altered how I view my own brain. It forced me to pick up his book, How Not to Be Stupid: The Transformative Power of Independent Thinking.

Sibaldi doesn’t view "stupidity" as a low IQ score or a lack of education. He looks at the Latin root: stupidus—which means to freeze, to be stunned, or to come to a dead halt. Stupidity, in his eyes, is the psychological block that happens when you stop thinking for yourself and let society, habits, or fear pull you onto autopilot because conformity feels safer than standing alone.

He maps this out through 12 distinct psychological functions of the self (covering how we handle authority, communication, wealth, and our past). He argues that we might be brilliant in one function, but completely paralyzed, or "stupid," in another.

Enter the Algorithmic Herd

Reading his breakdown of these 12 functions made me look directly at our modern digital landscape. Look at social media algorithms. They are essentially automated conformity engines. They track our biases, feed us exactly what we want to hear, and reward us with dopamine when we echo the prevailing sentiment of our chosen "tribe."

By Sibaldi’s definition, algorithms are training us to be profoundly stupid. They invite us to freeze our critical faculties, stop questioning why we believe what we believe, and coast on a borrowed collective consciousness.

This directly mirrors what the 19th-century philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche warned us about when he wrote about the "Herd Mentality." Nietzsche argued that society conditions individuals to fear standing out, replacing true personal virtue with a safe, obedient group morality. When you combine Sibaldi’s 12 functions with Nietzsche’s herd, you get the modern internet: millions of people trapped in an echo chamber, terrified of the social death that comes with independent thought, mistaking algorithmic obedience for personal perspective.

Where Sibaldi and I Part Ways

Sibaldi’s interview and his book gave me a massive paradigm shift. It made me realize how often I speak in phrases I didn't invent and defend ideas I haven't actually pressure-tested. It taught me that real intelligence isn't about knowing the answers; it’s about having the raw courage to stay in motion when everyone else freezes.

But here is where I disagree with him. Sibaldi implies that breaking free from these 12 blocks is a purely intellectual act of will—a personal hygiene of the mind where you choose to disobey the collective.

I think he underestimates the sheer weight of modern systemic design. It’s easy to say "stop being a person from a breeding farm" (as he bluntly calls it), but when our economic livelihood, our social circles, and our mental health loops are entirely hardwired into platforms designed to keep us frozen, waking up isn’t just a philosophical choice. It’s an exhausting, daily psychological war against an infrastructure designed to keep us asleep. Disobedience doesn't just take clarity; it takes an immense amount of emotional resilience that a lot of people simply don't have the bandwidth to afford.

The Ultimate 4th of July Debate: Where Do You Stand on These Cookout Classics?

Photo by Saeed Khokhar from Pexels

Happy 4th of July weekend! The grills are fired up, the coolers are packed with ice, and the countdown to the local July 4th fireworks show is officially on.

Whether you are hosting a massive backyard party or just relaxing with family, there is one thing everyone can agree on: 4th of July food is the absolute best part of the holiday.

But while we love the classic American cookout, it also sparks some incredibly fierce debates. Every family has that one relative who defends their secret potato salad recipe with their life, or the kid who thinks sparklers are better than the main event.

Let's settle the ultimate holiday arguments once and for all. Where do you stand on these four classic 4th of July traditions?
