Today is my birthday, and at first I thought I would not say anything at all. Why have I been holding onto these photos for over two months now? Honestly, I don't even know. It has been a little more than two months since we took this short road trip into the wild, quiet heart of Dumfries and Galloway, and I’ve just been sitting on them. Maybe a part of me felt like I needed the absolute perfect moment to sit down and write this post the exact way I wanted to—to give it the time and the soul it deserves. I always check the exact date of our visits because places in Scotland change so beautifully from season to season, allowing you to plan your own perfect escape depending on whether you want a lush summer canopy or a crisp winter walk. Mugdock Reservoir: The Victorian Engineering Marvel We Almost Missed

Our little big adventure really did not want to end at Tannoch Loch. After leaving Tannoch Loch, we got back in the car and started heading home, but then we saw Drumclog Moor Car Park and something in me said, wait, why are people parking here? What is actually around here? So we drove past, then reversed and decided to have a look. I am glad we did because this little decision took us somewhere we had completely missed earlier in the day. There was a map, so this time we actually stood there and looked at it properly, and that was when I realised there was something else around Mugdock Country Park that we had not seen: Mugdock Reservoir. Remember how I told you we had gone looking for Mugdock Castle earlier and somehow ended up at Craigend Castle instead?
