Christians are being killed in Nigeria under President Tinubu's watch

They are killing Christians in Nigeria, and the Nigerian leaders are trying to deny the truth, despite the overwhelming evidence and their obvious complicity.

Right now, Christians are being targeted by radical Muslims and are being systematically killed.
We mourn the lost, but the killing continues. Gunmen enter churches, slaughtering worshippers. They invade Christian communities, commit unspeakable acts against women, and kill people with absolute impunity. And still, no arrests. We hear of cases where citizens manage to catch an attacker, only for the police to allegedly let them go.

If there is one undeniable truth, it is this: the Nigerian police force is one of the biggest issues we face. How can we call ourselves a country when the very government uses its police to oppress and intimidate the people? Police officers have become thugs for politicians. Our court system is hopelessly corrupt.

Our government and top officials are heavily populated by those who seem to believe in this act of killing people who do not share their religion. They are actively trying to silence Nigerians and deceive the world, claiming these are mere "terrorist attacks" or "farmer-herder clashes," rather than the truth: a direct, orchestrated attack on Christianity itself.

Nigerian Christians are dying. People are crying. Pastors are being killed. Members of the church are being slaughtered. The death toll is so devastating that coffins are no longer available in some areas, forcing families to bury their loved ones in simple wooden boxes. This is the tragic, heartbreaking reality.

And yet, when the conversation turns to international help, especially from nations like the United States, we hear voices arguing against intervention. They warn that America shouldn't help Nigeria because they will "steal Nigerian natural resources." These people have no idea what Nigeria has truly become because of these Islamic radicals. People are being kidnapped and killed, people are being beheaded. Young girls are being snatched from schools. They are even kidnapping boys and forcefully training them to become part of their terror groups.

The devastating truth is that our political class, the same people who brought some of this radical instability into the country, are the ones who truly enjoy the nation's wealth. The politicians share this resource wealth amongst themselves and with other countries through corrupt business dealings, while the people suffer and die.

Tell me, why have Christians been dying for so long, and nothing concrete has been done? Our court system is a mockery of justice. The government doesn't follow the law; they simply pay their way through legal challenges.

We are tired. We are living in a country where human lives are valued less than resources. The government has become a gang of thugs, taking peoples' properties and demolishing homes just to clear the way for wealthy individuals to have their way, and nothing is done to stop them.

Our current leadership, whose election was marred by allegations of rigging, are just old, power-choked men who continue to run this nation into the ground.

With the military and government heavily populated by those who share the religious ideology of the attackers, it feels as though they are actively fulfilling the will of their own religion rather than protecting all Nigerian citizens.

We are tired, heartbroken, and feel utterly betrayed. The intent is clear: to kill all the Christians until we will not be able to worship in the open.

Please, we beg you, pray for Nigeria. Pray for the Christians who are being persecuted. Pray for the light to break through this suffocating darkness.

We need the world to see the truth. We need the world to speak up.

Human rights and Christian organizations have compiled these figures, which paint a devastating picture.

Time PeriodGroup Tracking ItEstimated Christians Killed (Civilians)Context
2023 (Oct 2022 - Sept 2023)Open Doors (World Watch List)4,118They reported that 82% of all faith-related Christian killings globally in 2023 happened right there in Nigeria. Just insane.
2019 - 2023Observatory of Religious Freedom in Africa (ORFA)16,769They broke it down and found that for every Muslim killed in violence, 2.7 Christians were murdered.
Since July 2009Various Christian Monitoring GroupsOver 50,000This figure stretches back to when the Islamist uprising by groups like Boko Haram really kicked off.

Side Note: Just remember, these are estimates from NGOs, not some "official" government count, and they all use slightly different ways to track the deaths.

The violence isn't everywhere, but it's absolutely brutal in key areas. It's mainly focused on the North-Central region (the Middle Belt), but also parts of the Northeast and Northwest.

The attacks are often carried out by groups like Boko Haram, ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province), and armed Fulani militants. While the Middle Belt often experiences clashes between Muslim herders and Christian farmers over land, all reports indicate that the attacks on Christian villages are significantly motivated by religious factors.

Region of Highest ConcentrationKey States Getting HammeredWho's Attacking
North-Central (Middle Belt)Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, Nasarawa, KogiArmed Fulani Militias (Herdsmen), bandits, and other terror groups.
North-EastBorno, Yobe, AdamawaBoko Haram and ISWAP.
North-WestKaduna, ZamfaraBandits, who focus on kidnapping and straight-up violence.
Plateau State: This state has been hit so hard. Over the 2023 Christmas Eve weekend, for example, attacks across Christian villages reportedly killed between 140 and 190 people. Just heartbreaking.

Kaduna State: Violence is constant here, including the burning of residences belonging to priests and seminarians, plus attacks in southern Christian villages.

Benue State: Has seen so many massacres of predominantly Christian farmers, which are usually blamed on armed herders.

I know people always say things like America has a motive for helping any country, but how do you reconcile them helping without getting something? I mean, it's politics. And just so you know, Nigeria is not a working country at the moment. So people who say they will scatter the country do not understand that our leaders have already scattered it. Now what they are doing is killing Christians to make it an all-Muslim country. Christians are under attack. People are crying and dying. Spread the word and pray for Nigeria. If we protest we get arrested and put in jail. They are gradually taking away free speech and the situation is deeply sad. The late President Buhari still has people he put in prison for protesting during the EndSARS movement. President Tinubu keeps borrowing money and the senate keeps approving but nothing is being done. I can't even go on. I need to stop here; please pray for Nigeria.

  1. Thank you for posting about the massacres of Christians happening now in Nigeria. It is heart breaking and the Christians are incredibly brave, continuing to worship. I see a lot of info and videos on this on x.com an important source of info. Newspapers print close to zero about this

  5. It's a sad but true observation: "it seems that riches are worth more than people's lives." It's a madness that's happening in almost every part of the world, and no one - with the power to change anything for the better - seems to care. Somehow, it seems like we're all on our own. Very sad.

    Saludos.

  8. Christians are been killed in Nigeria. Christians are killed in Syria, too but... People are been murdered in Palestine, too.
A whole world under the dark and dystopia, my dear Melody.

  9. Hi Melody,
I've heard/read about the events in Nigeria... It's very sad and tragic... It's heartbreaking... It's terrifying how much evil there is in the world... Why can't we, people, learn from history? Why can't history teach us anything?
Melody, speaking of corruption, unfortunately, but in my country, I can say that it's standard... Unfortunately, the current judiciary isn’t good. The current opposition is being lynched by those in power. Currently, the former Minister of Justice is in Hungary, and tomorrow there will be a vote on whether to strip him of his immunity. Currently, the government wants to arrest and charge him, they want to bring 26 charges.
Melody, speaking of religion, in my country, there's an ongoing fight against the Church (for example: reluctance to hold religious education classes in schools, removing crosses from public places, "rainbow Fridays" in schools where children and young people are taught "tolerance," the left wants to legalize same-sex unions), and Saint John Paul II is being discredited.

  11. Reading this was heartbreaking, so much hatred and killing just because someone is of a different faith, I know I am strange but I honestly don't understand why it has to bother someone if they are of a different faith but then I believe there is only one God and people around the world identify him differently.

    Beijinhos fraternos

  15. Melody, are Christians really being killed in Nigeria? I don't believe Trump. After the coup, terrorists, either Al-Qaeda or ISIS, took power in Syria. They started killing Christians.
Trump calls the president of the terrorist regime in Syria a good guy. Trump needs to rob Nigeria and Venezuela, because those countries have a lot of oil. The Americans have been pumping oil in Syria for years, too.

  17. We truly live in a world that is "a valley of tears". You post about horrible massacre of Christians in Nigeria, your country of origin (something that must be incredibly painful for you) yet some people are commenting about their political views or saying there are innocent deaths everywhere, making it sound irrelevant. It shows what kind of world we love in. Where did empathy go? Sometimes it feels like everyone is using every situation to win political points or to prove they are on a winning side morally. Either that or making everything seems relevant. Of course this is something to talk about, it is an urgent matter. Christians are being killed in Nigeria because of their faith. The Western world gives this almost no media coverage. Perhaps we are limited in what we can do, we the average people, maybe we cannot stop the war and the killing, but we can listen. We can show empathy. We can be horrified by the Western indifference.
I'm very sorry for your loss, Melody. I know that not being there makes you feel it all the more keenly. We must turn to God for strength. You might not find emphaty in your fellow humans, but in God there is strenght always and forever. In God there is truth and solace.

  20. Dear Melody 🙏🥹🙏🥹
Your post reveals a very dark truth about the world’s current affairs!
I am sorry I had no idea such cruelty was being done by the so called Muslim people in Nigeria !
In my eyes and in Quran’s perspective Muslim is one who would never hurt anyone unless it’s life threatening situation for him!
I don’t think people who are truly Muslim can ever kill innocent. I believe in holy books and in truth it speaks that God loves those who have a strong and virtuous character and pious heart free from all negative and destructive feelings. No matter where they belong to they should be a good example of humanity for all.
I hope that this cruelty will end in Nageria and people will live peacefully 🙏🙏🙏🙏🥹

  23. Это очень страшно. Печально, что люди могут убивать других людей по какому-то отличающему от них признаку - цвету кожи, полу, национальности, вере. Ещё страшнее, когда поддерживается или замалчивается на уровне государств.

  24. Reading this post and all those statistics (I am sure real numbers are way bigger) is heart breaking! How prople manage to stay remain indifferent to all this suffering and killing is unthinkable to me. All this happens when the strong ones just follow their interests and ordinary people lose empathy.
Sadly, raising awarness is the only thing we can do... and I can only congratulate you for this wonderfully written post even if, we would have prefered it wouldn't had been necessary...

  25. I grieve for Nigeria. Prayer will be offered.

    Love, Hugs and Blessings
